A Game Plan For The Future

Posted by Lauren Reed | Apr 21, 2022 7:00:00 PM

At the end of 2021 we announced that four, long-standing employees were retiring. We have thrown the parties, passed out all the hugs and wished them all a happy retirement. Though they will be missed dearly, and they can never be replaced, we are happy to announce that we have a game plan to keep operations running smoothly. As you may know, it is a contractor’s job to think ahead and be willing to adapt to change.

Katie Journey – Compliance & Multi-Family Property ManagerKatie Journey

Katie joined the Brindley family in 2004, as Administrator of the Hewitt House Assisted Living.  The Hewitt House was owned by Mr. Robert Brindley, Sr. our founder of Brindley Construction and Associates. He allowed Katie an opportunity to join his professional world so she could learn and grow as a young professional.  Even in her early career days, Terry Mitchell was involved with guidance & support for her Administrative role with the Hewitt House.  Terry, took many of Katie's professional challenges to mentor and show her how she could expand her talents and skills.  Sometimes there are individuals in an organization that become a cornerstone. Katie would say, Terry Mitchell holds one of these corners.

Since 2004, Katie's professional career has expanded into several areas with Brindley.  She transitioned into the Brindley & Associates, Inc. housing portfolio as Compliance Manager in 2012 continuing to work closely with Terry. The primary responsibility was making sure our portfolio of properties remained compliant with all regulatory partners. A few years later, her role and responsibilities expanded to multi-family property manager. My daily activities continue to include monitoring compliance of the portfolio along with overseeing the entire investment and operations of the portfolio. The housing portfolio includes affordable multi-family properties, commercial, elderly and single family property locally and across Tennessee.

"Terry has earned retirement life! His commitment and dedication to Brindley for decades will continue to be that cornerstone, I mentioned. I am humbled and excited to accept Terry’s role and responsibilities for our team in 2022. We have a lot of exciting adventures and future possibilities as a team. I personally look forward to continuing my commitment and dedication to the Brindley team for many years to come." - Katie Journey

Michelle Orr - Controller

Michelle OrrMichelle started working in accounting at a local bank while in college. When she was given the opportunity to pursue a career at Brindley in 2006, she decided to make the change to further her experience and expand her understanding of accounting in another industry, while hoping to pursue a leadership role at some point.

Starting out as an entry-level accountant, her job mostly consisted of data entry type duties. It has taken Michelle quite some time to move into the role as Controller. Being able to show her progress in her current role by being diligent, detail-oriented, organized, along with inhabiting leadership skills and nearly 15 years in the construction industry, has been imperative to her growth in our company.

As the Controller for Brindley Construction, she is responsible for our company’s financial planning and budgeting, general accounting duties, human resources management, and IT-related services. What Michelle enjoys about her job is her work, in general, and the people that she work with—our Brindley family. Her day-to-day duties and workload differ greatly, but she also enjoys that it is not the same routine daily.

"Ricky White was an amazing boss and has taught me a lot of key things that I know I will be able to use in my role as Controller. He will be missed dearly, but I am happy for him in his new chapter of life. I cannot thank him enough for sharing his knowledge with me." - Michelle Orr

Daniel Tomerlin – SuperintendentDaniel (3)

Though, Ricky Stubblefield, a long-standing superintendent with Brindley just retired and will be dearly missed, we are excited to announce that Daniel has joined the Brindley Team and is one of our new superintendents. He will be working at Columbia Academy on their new additions.

“Daniel is a very driven, detail-oriented person and we could not have picked a better superintendent for this project.” -Project Manager, Tim Rohling.

When Daniel is not hard at work on the jobsite, he loves to spend time with his wife Hannah, his son Wesson, and his newest addition—daughter, Allie Brooke. We cannot wait to watch Daniel grow here at Brindley.

We Are Optimistic

Change is not always an easy thing, but change can also be a good thing. As John C. Maxwell said, “Change is inevitable. Growth is optional.” We are excited for our employees who have been with us and have now retired, and we are thrilled to welcome new team members and to promote existing team members. As we continue to change and grow, we are thankful to all of our customers and supporters for coming along this journey with us.

HERE'S TO CHANGE
